New Delhi: The air quality in the national capital Delhi and its surrounding areas has once again become toxic. Due to the extremely poor air quality, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented GRAP-IV restrictions in Delhi. The capital's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 428 on Saturday evening, which is considered very dangerous for health. In view of this situation, the administration has decided to implement GRAP-4.
Under GRAP-4, all construction and demolition activities in Delhi have been completely banned, as dust from construction contributes significantly to air pollution. In addition, the entry of trucks into the capital has also been banned, with only vehicles involved in essential services being granted limited access. The emissions from heavy vehicles are considered a major source of pollution, making this step necessary.
Considering the health of children, all schools in Delhi have been instructed to switch to a hybrid mode of teaching. Under this system, classes will be conducted both online and offline, so that children do not have to go outside in the toxic air and can avoid health problems.
The CAQM has clarified that these stringent measures have been taken in view of the emergency situation and these rules will remain in effect until the air quality improves. The administration has appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and refrain from activities that contribute to pollution.
Every year, rising pollution during the winter months becomes a major challenge for Delhi. This time, the situation has become so serious that the highest level of provisions, GRAP-4, had to be implemented.
