Punjab News: The Election Commission has started the process of revising the Tarn Taran Assembly voter list. This special revision will be based on the eligibility date of July 1, 2025. Authorities aim to ensure accuracy before the bypolls are conducted. As per the schedule, rationalization of polling stations will be completed by August 28. The draft integrated voter list will be published on September 2. From that date, citizens will be able to submit claims and objections till September 17.
Between September 2 and 17, residents can file objections or corrections related to names, addresses, or other errors in the draft voter list. Officials have confirmed that all such applications will be examined and resolved transparently within the given period.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, said that all claims and objections will be settled by September 25. The intention is to provide enough time for corrections so that every eligible voter is included in the final electoral roll.
The Election Commission has planned to publish the final voter list for Tarn Taran on September 30. This list will serve as the official roll for the upcoming by-election. The exact polling date, however, is yet to be announced. Officials explained that the gap between final publication and polling will give time to political parties and voters to prepare. The Commission also highlighted that publishing a verified list will prevent duplicate entries. Election officers in Tarn Taran are expected to carry out special drives in sensitive areas. These measures aim to avoid disputes and ensure smooth polling later.
All recognized political parties in Punjab have already been informed about the special voter list revision. The Commission has asked them to guide their workers and supporters to check the draft rolls and raise objections, if necessary, within the timeline.
Parties were told that ignoring the draft rolls could harm their prospects. Leaders from Congress, AAP, and Shiromani Akali Dal have welcomed the move. Some parties have already planned local awareness camps to help voters check names. The Election Commission believes involving political parties directly will reduce complaints and build consensus.
The voter list revision is crucial as it ensures fairness and transparency in the upcoming bypoll. Citizens have been urged to verify their details promptly. A clean and accurate voter roll will build trust in the electoral process and strengthen democracy.
Experts say bypolls often witness close contests, making accuracy even more vital. Any error in names can affect results in tight margins. The Commission stressed that every eligible voter must find their name in the final roll. Civil groups have also joined the effort, running awareness drives to encourage participation.
