Panaji: A major twist has emerged in the high-profile 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub fire case in Goa. The Additional Sessions Court situated in Merces has granted regular bail to the club's owners, Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra. Senior Advocate Subodh Kantak and Advocate Vaibhav Suri represented the accused in court.

Will the accused walk of prison?

Despite securing bail from the court, the two brothers will not be able to walk out of jail just yet. The Mapusa Police took both brothers into their custody on Monday. This action was taken in connection with allegations of fabricating a fake No Objection Certificate (NOC). The police allege that the accused used a document bearing the forged signature of a health official to obtain a license from the Excise Department.

What is the issue?

The entire case stems from a massive fire that broke out on December 6, 2025, at the nightclub located in Arpora. That tragic incident claimed the lives of 25 people and left more than 50 injured. The event sent shockwaves across the entire nation. Following the fire, both accused fled to Thailand, from where they were brought back to India on December 17. Since then, they have been lodged in the Colvale Jail in North Goa.

The matter regarding the forged documents came to light while the Anjuna Police were investigating the nightclub fire. According to the police, the necessary paperwork required to operate the club had been fraudulently prepared. In this case, another owner, Ajay Gupta, has already secured relief. For the time being, the troubles facing the Luthra brothers do not appear to be subsiding, as the police are now interrogating them in connection with this new case of fraud.
