Gurugram, formerly known as Gurgaon, is a major corporate and business hub in India, often referred to as the 'Millennium City'. In recent years, it has frequently made headlines during every monsoon season due to waterlogging and infrastructural shortcomings. Recently, fed up with the waterlogging in the city, a man shared his anger on a subreddit, which caused a stir across social media.
His viral post not only highlighted the issues in Gurugram but also raised serious questions about urban planning and government accountability. The man wrote, “I am leaving India.” He described how the persistent waterlogging and poor roads had broken him mentally and emotionally. His post not only reflects his personal suffering but also gives voice to the emotions of thousands of people struggling with the city’s deteriorating infrastructure.
In his post, the man wrote, “Last night I saw at least five luxury cars stuck in water, and I drove past them in my own car. This is madness.” He explained how even in a prosperous city like Gurugram, the rainy season becomes a challenge for citizens. The sight of people and cars trapped in deep water on the streets was unbearable for him. This situation not only disrupts traffic but also brings daily life to a standstill.
He also questioned the silence of the rich and industrialists in his post. “I think wealthy people or industrialists can pressure the government, yet no action is taken. Those who have the resources and influence still do not take any steps to solve the problem.” The inactivity of the middle class was also called out. The man wrote, “People like us just accept the status quo. I’m afraid to take my car out in this weather—even a minor issue could cost me dearly.” His statement reflects the fears of those who live every monsoon season dreading damage to their vehicles and property.
Concluding his post, the man made it clear: “I’ve decided to leave India. I don’t want to live a life where people are seen struggling without even basic necessities.” He also added, “This may seem like a random rant, but right now I’m extremely angry.”
Following the post, people took to social media to vent their frustration over Gurugram’s failing infrastructure. One user, who was interning in Cyberhub, wrote, “I came here impressed by Cyberhub and its buildings. But inside? It’s a mess. Walking to work feels like playing Temple Run—the roads aren’t fit to walk on, the footpaths are full of filth, and open wires are scattered everywhere.” Another user sarcastically commented, “Paying heavy taxes and EMIs for this mess? Leaving the country seems like a better option.”
Although this viral post began with one individual’s frustration, it has sparked an important debate around urban planning, government accountability, and the quality of life in Gurugram. Whether the individual actually leaves India or not, his post has given a voice to millions who face similar issues every year.
