Karnataka: The ongoing tussle over the Chief Minister's chair in Karnataka has once again come to the fore. Ever since the formation of the Congress government, the discussion has been going on that power will be divided in two and a half years. At present the Chief Minister is Siddaramaiah, and DK Shivakumar is the Deputy Chief Minister. Both the leaders do not say anything openly on this issue, but there is uneasiness regarding this within the party.
This matter came into discussion again on Tuesday, when Rahul Gandhi met both the leaders at Mysore Airport.
Rahul Gandhi was going on a tour of Tamil Nadu. During this time, he met Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar at Mysore Airport. After the welcome, all three were seen standing apart for some time and talking.
The video of this conversation went viral on social media. After this, various kinds of talks started in political circles about whether any major decision is going to be taken regarding Karnataka.
People associated with the party say that DK Shivkumar has asked for an appointment with Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi replied that he would talk to party president Mallikarjun Kharge about this.
Shivkumar has been wanting to meet the party leadership for a long time. It is believed that he wants to put forward his point regarding the post of Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told Rahul Gandhi that a special session of the Assembly has been called regarding a new law related to MNREGA in the state. He also gave information about some work of the government. Even before this, Siddaramaiah had gone to Delhi and met Rahul Gandhi in November.
According to Congress sources, a big meeting regarding Karnataka may be held in Delhi in the last week of January. This will include Rahul Gandhi, Kharge, Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar and senior leaders of the state. Cabinet expansion and the further strategy of the government can be discussed in this meeting.
The biggest problem for Congress is that both Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar are strong leaders. On one hand the Chief Minister wants a change in his team, while on the other hand the Deputy Chief Minister is hoping to become the Chief Minister.
The party leadership does not want to upset anyone. For this reason, neither the decision to change the leadership is being taken nor the cabinet reshuffle is being approved. Now everyone's eyes are on the meeting to be held at the end of January, where perhaps a solution to this political dilemma may be found.
