New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah on June 9. The two leaders spoke about the worsening security situation in West Asia. The call came days after an Iranian drone struck Kuwait Airport on June 3, killing an Indian national. The attack caused heavy damage to the airport and left several injured. It happened hours after Iran and the United States traded missile strikes in the region.

What Modi had said?

Modi expressed deep concern over rising tensions. He condemned the attacks on Kuwait's sovereignty. He called for de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy. He also thanked the Amir for personally looking after the safety of the large Indian community living in Kuwait.

Strait of Hormuz still blocked?

The call also came as US President Donald Trump confirmed the American naval blockade on Iran stays in place. Trump spoke to reporters while leaving New York after attending the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. He said the blockade will not lift until a final deal is signed with Tehran. "No oil, no income, no nothing," he said.

Deal could come in days?

Trump sounded optimistic. He said talks with Tehran are moving and a breakthrough could come within days. "We are in the final throes of a very good deal that will not allow, in any way or form, nuclear weapons. And the Strait will open up right away; immediately upon signing, which could be in two or three days," he said.
