Lucknow: Private glimpses of a newly married couple were recorded on a CCTV camera at Haliyapur Toll Plaza on Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, and now allegations of blackmail are being made on the basis of this video. The complainants say that this private moment of the couple was recorded in a rude manner, and later it was used to extort money from them.
It is alleged that when the newly married couple stopped their car at the toll plaza and stopped for a few moments, they expressed love to each other, and the groom kissed the bride. At the same time, the CCTV camera installed was recording this accident. The complainant says that these cameras are being used to record obscene videos and blackmail him. It is alleged that some people of the toll plaza management and staff are involved in making this video and making it viral. The complainant has also sent a letter to the Chief Minister regarding this incident and has demanded an investigation into the entire incident.
The complaint states that this incident is not an isolated one. The cameras at the toll plaza were also turned towards the nearby villages, recording women crossing the road, women going to defecate, and pedestrians. After this, they were blackmailed by making obscene videos. The complainant said that many similar incidents have taken place. Rs 10,000 was charged from some women; up to Rs 32,000 was demanded from some couples.
The toll plaza manager says that he neither has any direct connection with this incident nor has he taken any amount from anyone. He has rejected the allegations. However, it has been said that the incident is under investigation and all efforts are being made to arrest the culprits.
This incident raises big questions related to security and privacy. It makes it clear that CCTV cameras installed in public places—which are meant for security—can become the basis of the same security and privacy when they are used for misuse. Especially in areas where people cross the road or stop, but the direction of the camera is not correct. There the risk of such recording increases.
