Omar Abdullah Statement (Credit: OpenAI)
Omar Abdullah does not agree with what his father believes. His father thinks Electronic Voting Machines are faulty and can be tampered with. But Omar says he has full faith in these machines. He said this openly at a leadership summit in Delhi. He said he does not accept that votes are stolen by machines. He added that this difference of opinion creates arguments even inside his home. He apologized to his father while speaking on stage.
Omar said people blame machines because it is easy. But elections are bigger than one device. According to him, if someone wants to cheat elections, it can happen in many other ways. It can happen by changing voter lists. It can happen by shifting boundaries of seats. It can happen when a party in power gets the demarcation done in its favour. He said Jammu and Kashmir once faced such wrong delimitation. That time the whole process was designed to benefit only one political party. People must focus on these real dangers, not only EVMs.
He said people keep shouting that EVMs are hacked. But most of the time, it is just a political excuse. Candidates lose and then blame the machine. They do not blame their weak campaigns. They do not blame lack of ground work. They do not blame their own leadership. They want a simple answer for defeat. Omar said this attitude does not help democracy. He believes one should accept voters’ decision with honesty. He said that trust in the voting system is necessary for a healthy democracy.
Omar Abdullah also spoke about the INDIA alliance. He said it cannot win unless it stays united. He called for practical decisions. He said opposition parties must decide whether to fight together in all states. Or allow each state to choose its own alliances. He admitted regional parties have strength only in some states. But he stressed that nationwide presence is required at the centre. He said Congress is the only opposition party with national reach. Without Congress, no major anti-BJP coalition can survive.
He praised BJP’s election strategy. He said their leaders fight every election with full force. They behave as if their life depends on the result. They campaign aggressively and remain in the field always. He compared it with his own camp. He said opposition leaders become active only two months before polls. They reach late and lose momentum. BJP moves to the next state instantly after finishing one election. That energy and discipline makes a huge difference. It impacts results everywhere.
Omar said new generation politicians must change the way elections are fought. They need better organization. They need constant connection with people. They must avoid over-dependency on social media noise. He said young voters expect real work and real faces on ground. He said political parties should learn from people’s frustration. They want transparency. They want responsive leaders. They want those who listen. Election is not just a speech event. It is a long-term relationship.
He ended his views with a strong message. He said democracy stands on trust. If citizens stop trusting elections, everything collapses. If leaders blame machines instead of their mistakes, nothing improves. Voters lose faith. Institutions weaken. He said every politician must accept public verdict with respect. They should work harder instead of doubting everything. The future of India depends on trust between voter, leader, and system. Without that trust, democracy turns into chaos.
