Online Gaming Bill

National News: The Online Gaming Bill 2025 has been approved by President Draupadi Murmu. With this, this bill has now become a law. The law directly targets fantasy sports, skill-based money games, and other such online platforms that operate games with 'real money.' Due to this, many big startups have either shut down or suspended their services.

This law prohibits advertisements and promotions of online games in which money is at stake. It also prohibits banks and non-banking financial institutions from making transactions related to such games. Let us tell you that after the approval of the Lok Sabha, this bill was also approved in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, which aims to prevent addiction, money laundering, and misleading advertisements related to the rapidly growing online gaming sector.

Dream11-Dream Sports

Dream11 has stopped all pay-to-play competitions on its new apps, Dream Pix and Dream Play. The company issued a notice saying that the users' money is safe and they can withdraw their amount from the Dream11 app.

Zupee

Gaming startup Zupee has shut down its paid games, while free games like Ludo and Snakes and Ladders are still running. The company clarified that this decision has been taken in compliance with the new law.

PokerBase

Nazara Technologies said that its subsidiary Moonshine Technologies, which operated PokerBaazi, has discontinued real-money operations. The company is evaluating its future strategy.

 Probo And MPL Halt Operations

Probo has also halted its real-money gaming operations with immediate effect. The company called it an "unfortunate but necessary step" and said it respects the government's decision. India's first gaming unicorn, MPL, has also removed all real-money games from its platform. Although users can withdraw their balance, no new deposits can be made now.

Gameskraft has shut down its real-money rummy and poker services. Both the 'Add Cash' and 'Gameplay' features have been stopped, but the withdrawal facility is still active.
