Rapido (Social Media)
A disturbing incident involving a Rapido rider has surfaced, just days after a Delhi-based lawyer reported receiving inappropriate messages from an Uber driver. A woman has now alleged that a Rapido rider made objectionable remarks during the ride and later sent her unsolicited messages on WhatsApp, raising concerns about women's safety in the capital.
According to media reports, the woman took to Reddit to share her ordeal. She revealed that she had booked a ride through Rapido but felt uncomfortable due to the rider’s behavior during and after the trip.
"Hi everyone, I booked a Rapido ride yesterday. When the rider dropped me off, he started asking personal questions as I was making the payment. I don’t mind small talk, so I engaged in the conversation initially," she wrote in her post.
Describing the encounter further, she stated, "He then said something like, ‘You are so young and beautiful, why don’t you have a fiancé?’ I ignored it and nervously responded with ‘Thank you, bhaiya.’ To this, he replied, ‘Please don’t call me bhaiya. Also, if possible, share your social media links with me.’ I lied, saying I don’t use social media and quickly left."
The woman also shared screenshots of the messages sent by the rider, identified as Mohit. "Today, this man called me multiple times and sent messages that violated my personal privacy," she claimed.
The incident has sparked fresh discussions about women's safety in Delhi. A Reddit user commented, "Every conversation with women is influenced by Bollywood in their minds." Another user urged action, saying, "This should not be taken lightly. He is probably doing the same with others. If you haven’t reported it yet, please inform Rapido and, if he calls again, report it to the authorities."
A third user shared a personal experience, stating, "This is exactly why I stopped using Rapido bikes five years ago. I now pay extra for an auto-rickshaw to feel safe on every ride. It’s really tough for women."
