New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi had appealed to the citizens of the country to conserve petrol and diesel. Discussions regarding this have intensified, and amidst this, he himself has begun to put this into practice. Today, PM Narendra Modi stepped out of his residence with a convoy consisting of just two vehicles. By setting a personal example in the direction of conserving petrol and diesel following his appeal, PM Modi has conveyed a powerful message. He traveled in one vehicle, while the other carried the SPG personnel deployed for his security. He arrived at the Union Cabinet meeting traveling in this two-vehicle convoy.

What appeal did PM Narendra Modi make?

Earlier, while addressing an event in Hyderabad on Sunday, PM Narendra Modi had appealed for the necessity of conserving petrol and diesel. He stated that the citizens of the country must utilize fuel judiciously. Furthermore, he had also appealed to people to refrain from purchasing gold for a period of one year. Following PM Modi's appeal, Union Cabinet Ministers and the Chief Ministers of several states have reduced the size of their official convoys. Additionally, a decision has been taken to conduct various meetings online. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath have also implemented similar measures.

Moreover, PM Modi's appeal has triggered a wave of speculation. Some observers suggest that the coming days may bring certain restrictions, while another section believes that petrol and diesel prices are likely to rise, and the government is preparing for such a hike. These speculations gained further momentum on Tuesday when Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that petrol and diesel prices cannot be kept frozen for an extended period. He noted that petroleum companies are currently incurring daily losses of ₹1,000 crore due to the rising cost of crude oil. Such a situation, he emphasized, cannot be sustained indefinitely.
