Punjab Govt Exposes BJP-Congress Lies On Disaster Relief, Reveals Just Rs 1,582 Crore Released Since 2022 (Image Source: Social Media)
The Punjab government has come forward strongly against the propaganda being run by BJP and Congress. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema presented complete details of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) allocation, proving that only Rs 1,582 crore has been received from April 2022 to September 2025. Out of this, Rs 649 crore has already been spent for relief work while the remaining funds are in use for ongoing operations.
Cheema accused BJP of deliberately spreading lies to confuse the people of Punjab. He said the Centre has been unfair in releasing funds and has held back crucial amounts meant for disaster management. He pointed out that BJP leaders are trying to divert attention by making false claims instead of ensuring Punjab’s rightful share.
The Aam Aadmi Party did not spare Congress either. Cheema said Congress leaders are making baseless allegations only to gain political mileage. He argued that Congress never stood for Punjab’s rights, and now they are trying to weaken Punjab’s fight for justice by joining BJP in false propaganda.
The Mann government released year-wise figures to show transparency. In 2022-23, Punjab received ₹208 crore and spent ₹61 crore. In 2023-24, ₹645 crore was received and ₹420 crore spent. In 2024-25, ₹488 crore came and ₹27 crore spent. In 2025-26, till September, ₹241 crore was received and ₹140 crore spent. Cheema said every rupee is being accounted for and used for relief.
Cheema reminded how farmers suffered massive crop losses during floods. While the Centre delayed relief, the Punjab government immediately gave compensation. He said Punjab has always stood with its farmers in tough times. The Centre’s attitude, according to him, shows that BJP leaders have little concern for farmers’ pain.
Cheema demanded that BJP leaders explain why thousands of crores meant for Punjab under SDRF are still blocked. He said if the Centre had released funds on time, the state could have expanded relief work faster. The Mann government has asked BJP leaders to stop misleading campaigns and instead clarify the Centre’s failures before the public.
This open confrontation has added fresh fire to Punjab politics. The AAP government claims it has nothing to hide and is working transparently for people’s welfare. On the other hand, BJP and Congress are under pressure after the figures were made public. The issue is now likely to dominate political debate across the state in the coming weeks.
