National News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has unveiled an ambitious plan to turn Punjab into India’s new semiconductor hub. Addressing industry leaders in Chandigarh, he promised full government support to companies willing to invest. Mann highlighted how semiconductors power every modern device—from smartphones and laptops to defense equipment and satellites. He assured quick approvals, tax benefits, and world-class infrastructure to attract global investors. A dedicated semiconductor park is planned in Mohali, aiming to create thousands of jobs. Mann said Punjab’s skilled workforce will be a key advantage in this industry. This project, he claimed, could transform Punjab’s economy and redefine India’s tech future.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the state will soon be India’s semiconductor hub. He chaired a meeting with semiconductor industry leaders in Chandigarh and explained future plans. Mann stated semiconductor chips are vital for every modern electronic device. These chips are used in mobiles, computers, defense, and energy systems. The CM assured Punjab’s government will provide all help to investors, including land, subsidies, and quick permissions for factories. He said the state will welcome companies with open arms.
He added that this step will also make Punjab’s economy stronger and create a name for the state in technology. Mann said the government’s focus is on making Punjab self-reliant in high-tech industries and ending dependency on other states.
Semiconductors are tiny components that control how modern electronics work. Without them, mobiles, cars, medical equipment, or even satellites cannot function. They are used in energy systems, artificial intelligence tools, and defense technologies. Punjab can become a key supplier of such chips in India and abroad. Mann said the use of semiconductors is growing in every sector, from agriculture machinery to smart homes. He added this industry will bring Punjab closer to global standards in modern technology. The CM also highlighted that better technology will help common people by making gadgets cheaper and more reliable.
India’s semiconductor industry is growing 20-23% annually, one of the fastest in the world. Punjab must use this opportunity to join the global market. This growth will boost the state’s GDP and create lakhs of direct and indirect jobs. Companies setting up factories here will also train local youth in advanced skills like chip design and automation. Mann said such training will reduce unemployment and stop migration of skilled workers to other states or countries. He assured that Punjab’s agriculture-based economy will now add a strong technology pillar for long-term growth.
Mann announced a dedicated semiconductor park will be built in Mohali. This park will have factories, design labs, and research centers. The park will also create training institutes to prepare local students for high-paying technical jobs. He said global investors are already showing interest in Punjab after this proposal. The park will provide world-class infrastructure, an uninterrupted power supply, and smooth connectivity with highways and airports. Mann added that Mohali’s location near Chandigarh and IT hubs will make it easy for companies to start quickly.
Punjab already has thousands of skilled engineers and technicians graduating every year. This talent pool is a big advantage for semiconductor companies. The government promised single-window clearance and fast approvals for investors. Mann assured tax incentives, land at subsidized rates, and a supportive business environment. He said skilled manpower will reduce training costs for companies and speed up production. This will help Punjab compete with states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the tech sector.
Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora, Industry Secretary K.K. Yadav, and ‘Invest Punjab’ CEO Amit Dhaka attended the meeting. They assured full coordination between government departments and private companies. Officials promised investors red-carpet treatment and solutions to every hurdle they face. The meeting also highlighted Punjab’s plan to promote research and innovation in partnership with universities. Mann said a joint team of officials and industry experts will monitor the project’s progress regularly.
Mann said the semiconductor project will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for youth. From factory workers to high-end chip designers, opportunities will open for every skill level. The government will also start skill-development programs to prepare local youth for these jobs. He said this project will reduce migration from Punjab and bring prosperity back to villages. Mann concluded that Punjab’s future lies in blending agriculture with modern industry for balanced growth.
