National News: Rajasthan is currently witnessing the destructive power of nature as continuous heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear in several districts. The downpour, which has been relentless for the past few days, has not only disrupted normal life but has also caused widespread destruction in both rural and urban regions. Sawai Madhopur has witnessed one of the most severe incidents, where the overflow of the Surwal Dam triggered a sudden collapse of land.

Crater Formation in Sawai Madhopur

On Sunday, water overflowing from the Surwal Dam led to a sudden land collapse, resulting in a huge crater near Jadawata village. Reports suggest that the ditch stretches for nearly 2 kilometers, with a width of more than 100 feet and a depth of over 50 feet. The forceful gush of water has diverted its course through farmlands, turning fertile agricultural fields into a river-like passage. This unexpected disaster has inflicted heavy losses on farmers whose standing crops have been washed away.

Village of Jadawata Faces Maximum Damage

Among the affected regions, Jadawata village has been hit the hardest. The formation of the massive ditch has not only destroyed agricultural land but has also led to the collapse of two houses, two shops, and two temples. For the villagers, the disaster is both emotional and economic, as homes, livelihoods, and places of worship have been wiped out in a matter of hours. Residents fear that continued rainfall could further deepen the erosion, posing a greater threat to the entire settlement.

Experts Warn of Escalating Danger

Meteorological experts monitoring the situation have expressed concern that if the rain continues in the same pattern, the damage could intensify in the coming days. The fact that the land subsidence occurred in a fertile agricultural belt adds to the seriousness of the problem. Water is continuously seeping from surrounding fields into the crater, making soil erosion nearly unstoppable. Experts believe that the long-term recovery of this region will be a massive challenge, requiring both technical intervention and financial aid.

Relief Forces and Army Deployed

With the situation deteriorating rapidly, the local administration has swung into action. The army, along with disaster relief forces, has been deployed in the affected areas to assist with evacuation and safety measures. Nearby houses have been vacated to ensure that no lives are lost in case of further land collapse. Officials are keeping a close watch on the water flow and working on strategies to divert it away from populated areas.

Minister’s Visit and Administrative Response

Local MLA and Cabinet Minister Karodi Lal Meena rushed to the spot after news of the dam overflow and land sinking broke out. He directed the administration to deploy heavy machinery to divert the water’s path. However, villagers on the ground remain skeptical, pointing out that the scale of the erosion makes it nearly impossible to stop the damage entirely. Despite the government’s assurance, the fear among residents remains high.

Widespread Impact Across Rajasthan

Beyond Sawai Madhopur, other districts are also reeling under the impact of continuous rainfall. Kota, Bundi, and Jhalawar are among the worst-hit regions. In Kota’s Digod subdivision, particularly in Hariji Ka Nimoda village, over 400 kutcha and pucca houses have been reduced to rubble. Several villages are completely submerged, while many others have been cut off due to flooding and road damage.

Situation Remains Grim

The continuous downpour has plunged Rajasthan into a severe crisis. With rivers swelling, houses collapsing, and agricultural land being destroyed, the people of the state are facing one of the harshest natural disasters in recent years. Relief work is underway, but much depends on whether the rains subside in the coming days. Until then, residents of the affected regions remain on edge, hoping for relief from the unending downpour.
