Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has been nominated as the Rajya Sabha candidate from Bihar by the opposition INDI Alliance. This was announced after a meeting of the RJD. Speculation about Tejashwi's Rajya Sabha candidacy had been circulating for some time, and the RJD meeting proved true. Tejashwi suffered a crushing defeat in last year's Bihar Assembly elections. The election results sparked a major controversy within the Lalu family. Now, the move to send Tejashwi to the Rajya Sabha has surprised some RJD workers. Tejashwi's Rajya Sabha candidacy is tantamount to him leaving Bihar. It remains to be seen what happens in the political future.

How many Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar are up for grabs?

It is known that elections are to be held for five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar. Based on the number of MLAs in the Bihar Assembly, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could easily win four seats. However, if the Grand Alliance receives the support of the entire opposition, one of their candidates could win. This means a tough contest is likely for the fifth seat.

Is an opposition candidate likely to win?

Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, is being fielded as the joint opposition candidate for this fifth Rajya Sabha seat. In Bihar, 41 MLAs are required for one Rajya Sabha seat, and the total for the entire opposition is 41. The Grand Alliance has a total of 35 MLAs in the Bihar Assembly, consisting of 25 from the RJD, 6 from the Congress, 2 from the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), and one each from the CPI and IIP. If the Grand Alliance secures the support of 5 MLAs from the AIMIM and 1 from the BSP, a candidate could win.
