3 people arrested in Karur stampede case: Police have arrested three people for spreading rumours in connection with the stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu. Those arrested include BJP and Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party leaders. Those arrested include BJP State Secretary (Arts and Culture) Sahayam from Perumbakkam, TVK member Sivaneswaran from Mangadu, and TVK 46th Ward Secretary Sarathkumar Kumar from Avadi. Around 40 people died in the stampede, including children and women.

More people arrived than expected

The root cause of this incident was a TVK party rally held in Karur on September 27th, addressed by TVK chief and actor Vijay. The party had estimated the number of people attending the rally to be 10,000 to 15,000, but in reality, over 50,000 people attended. Due to the small size of the rally venue, there was insufficient space for everyone to stand.

Additionally, actor Vijay, who was scheduled to attend the rally at 12 noon, arrived at 7 pm, nearly seven hours late. This delay fueled discontent and anger among attendees. Several videos showed people throwing slippers at Vijay. People jostled to get close to him, further escalating the situation.

Stampede due to imbalance

The pressure and imbalance in the crowd caused a stampede. Within moments, many people fell in the stampede, and the tight space prevented them from saving themselves. Forty people died and many were injured. This incident sent shockwaves through Karur and surrounding areas.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, police took immediate action and arrested those spreading rumors. Officials say those arrested exacerbated the situation by spreading misinformation through social media and other channels.
