Tetgama Tragedy (Social media)
National News: Tetgama village in Bihar’s Purnia district stands eerily silent today. But beneath that silence lies a horrifying massacre—one that echoed with the screams of five innocent lives and one that has shaken the very conscience of the nation. What transpired on Sunday night not only shames humanity but also raises a grave question: Are parts of India still surrendering to mob rule and blind superstition?
A Panchayat meeting was convened in the village, where Babulal Oraon’s family faced allegations of engaging in black magic. With nearly 300 villagers in attendance, the mob quickly reached a verdict—death. No trial. No evidence. No defense. Just a brutal, collective decision.
Within hours of that meeting, five members of Babulal's family were dragged out of their home, doused in petrol, and burned alive.
The sole survivor of this gruesome act is 12-year-old Sonu, Babulal's son. Hidden in a corner of the house, he watched the horror unfold. In his words, "I saw my father, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, and brother being tied up. They poured petrol on them and set them on fire. I couldn’t do anything... I just watched from where I was hiding.”
Sonu recalls a woman whispering to him, “Run away, or they’ll burn you too.” He ran. That decision saved his life.
The police have filed an FIR naming 23 individuals and listing 150 others as unidentified accused. So far, only two arrests have been made. The administration has promised strict action, but in Tetgama, fear and silence dominate. No villager dares to speak about what happened. The atmosphere remains tense and unyielding.
The incident has sent shockwaves across Bihar and resonated deeply throughout the nation. Can suspicion alone justify murder? Has mob justice replaced the legal system? Are village Panchayats now courts with the power to burn people alive?
These chilling questions demand urgent answers.
Sonu is now orphaned and traumatized. One night was all it took to take away everyone he loved. He lives in fear and is likely to carry this trauma for the rest of his life. This was not just murder—it was the psychological destruction of an innocent soul and a brutal message to humanity.
The Tetgama massacre is not merely a crime—it is a mirror to the deep-rooted barbarism, ignorance, and unchecked violence in parts of rural India. This is more than a police investigation. It is a wake-up call.
