Uttar Pradesh:  Laurene Powell Job is the widow of the late Steve Jobs, a co-founder of the computer company Apple. She took time recently to visit the legendary Kashi Vishwanath Temple located in Uttar Pradesh, a time when the culture of India has been receiving immense appreciation throughout the world, coupled with respect for spirituality and Indian tradition.

Swami Kailashanand Giri Maharaj said Jobs is "religious and spiritual," who is eager to learn about the Indian tradition. In fact, he said to her, "He is something of a 'father figure,' though for himself, being a guru to this woman helps him learn some features of a tradition he holds much dear.

Jobs is strictly not allowed to touch the sanctum sanctorum's holy Shivling, for he is non-Hindu. Maharaj said that this kind of traditional practice must go on so it will not break for future generations.

Performing Rituals with Devotion

A sense of personal identification through ritual acts. She wasn't even allowed to touch the Shivling, but Jobs would do rituals with Maharaj's family, take prasad, garland himself, and so on. Her dignified participation can depict how openly she was embracing India's rich spiritual practices.

Jobs will be one of the millions who will bathe in the Ganga at the Mahakumbh. Maharaj said that she is a shining example of the respect towards Indian spirituality all over the world.
