Andhra Pradesh: At Vishnu Niwasam in Tirupati, four devotees were trampled to death in a stampede wednesday when Vaikunthadwara Sarvadarshanam tokens were being distributed. Thousands thronged to get the token for the 10-day Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan.

Four people lost their lives, and several injured in the stampede

The stampede left several injured in critical condition, who were taken to Ruia Hospital at once. Though the medical staff and temple officials did their best, the over-rush caused the tragic killing. The people, who were standing in line for hours, could not check the uncontrollable rush, causing the tragic loss.

Safety measures raised concerns

This stampede has thrown up very serious questions as to how crowd management was dealt with and what safety measures had been put in place for large temple functions in Tirupati. The district authorities have vowed to look into the whole matter and take up the crowd management process to such an extent that such a calamity will never be witnessed in the future again.
