New Delhi: Former Team India spinner Harbhajan Singh has once again expressed his displeasure on social media over an offensive comment by a fan. The former star off-spinner posted a series of tweets on 'X' addressing the matter. Harbhajan, who is part of the commentary panel for the 2026 IPL season, reacted strongly when a user remarked that if R. Ashwin were to join the Hindi commentary team, his career would meet the same fate—ending just as this Tamil Nadu player's international career did. Rather than ignoring the comment, Harbhajan responded directly and severely rebuked the fan. Harbhajan Singh minced no words in lashing out at the fan on his social media account.
The entire controversy began when a troll account claimed that West Indies legend Ian Bishop was "more Indian" than Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Subsequently, the same account targeted Harbhajan, suggesting that he should focus on his commentary, lest R. Ashwin snatch that role away from him as well. Harbhajan did not remain silent in the face of such remarks and delivered a scathing reply. He wrote, "When an elephant walks through the market, dogs keep barking. Get lost, Tommy; I am not your friend."
In the match played on Saturday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in a one-sided contest. During this very match, Ravichandran Ashwin took up the responsibility of Hindi commentary for the first time in the IPL. Speculation regarding a rivalry or jealousy between Harbhajan Singh and Ashwin has been a topic of discussion for quite some time. Last year, Harbhajan even appeared on Ashwin's YouTube channel, where he spoke openly about this very issue. Bhajji appeared on Ashwin's YouTube channel.
During that conversation, Harbhajan posed a direct question to Ashwin: “Do you honestly think that I am jealous of you? You are sitting right here with me—we have spoken at length—so, do I strike you as that kind of person?” Responding to this, Ashwin replied, “Even if you ever did feel that way, it wouldn't be wrong. What I mean is, it shouldn't be viewed in a negative light, because we are all human beings, and such emotions are natural.”
