Dommaraju Gukesh is a rising star in the world of chess, making history with his exceptional talent. The 17-year-old Indian on Monday created history as he won the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Candidates Chess Tournament 2024, becoming youngest-ever challenger to the world title after an exciting final round in Toronto.

Notably, he is the only other Indian player to win the Candidates Tournament, after Viswanathan Anand. The triumph of five-time world champion Anand occurred in 2014.

Using black pieces, Gukesh defeated Hikaru Nakamura, a competitor for the championship, in Round 14.
The 17-year-old will face China's Ding Liren in the World Championship final after this victory makes him the youngest player to advance that far.

Gukesh is a Grandmaster, achieving the title at a very young age, ranking third youngest ever. He has shattered records, being the third-youngest to reach a rating of 2700 and the youngest to reach 2750.

Born on May 29, 2006 in Chennai, India. He started playing chess at the age of 7 and is currently a student at Velammal Vidyalaya school. Gukesh holds the 16th rank among active players globally. 

Gukesh has been in news since he became the third youngest Grandmaster in chess history at the age of twelve. He clinched a silver medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.
