PM Modi to Inaugurate 2 Delhi Metro Corridors, Lay Foundation of Multiple Projects worth Rs 33,500 crore (X)
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday will inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro and lay the foundation stone for three more corridors in the national capital, along other major developments worth Rs 33,500 crore. These new corridors of the metro will help to expand the city's public transport network.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta while announcing the projects, worth over Rs 18,300 crore, promised faster connectivity, reduced pollution and a boost to clean public transport across the national capital and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Rekha Gupta said that the Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
While talking to the media, Rekha Gupta said that with the opening of the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur corridor, which is 12.3 km stretch, will extend the Pink Line to about 71.56 km. Once completed, it will form India’s first fully operational Ring Metro, connecting many areas of the national capital in a circular route and improving travel across different neighbourhoods.
"The new Metro projects will improve connectivity across residential and commercial areas while strengthening clean and efficient public transport in the city. She said the expansion will help reduce pressure from private vehicles on roads and contribute to controlling pollution in the Capital," she added.
The officials also said the corridor will significantly improve connectivity between various parts of Delhi, particularly areas in North East and North West Delhi. The new link will enable commuters to travel more efficiently between several residential and commercial neighbourhoods without requiring multiple interchanges.
The Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park section is an extension of the Magenta Line. With the commissioning of this corridor, the total length of the Magenta Line will reach about 49 kilometres.
Rekha Gupta sad that the Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone for three new Metro corridors under Phase V (A) of the network expansion.
These project include the corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, often referred to as the Central Vista corridor, the Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 corridor, and the corridor from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
Once completed, these corridors are expected to strengthen connectivity between Delhi’s administrative centres, residential neighbourhoods, and commercial districts. The Aerocity-Terminal-1 corridor will also provide faster and more direct Metro access to the airport for commuters.
While sharing details about the project, Rekha Gupta said that the expansion will benefit not only residents of Delhi but also commuters from neighbouring cities in the National Capital Region.
"Travellers from Faridabad and Ballabhgarh will be able to reach Tughlakabad through the Violet Line and then travel directly towards the airport through the upcoming Golden Line corridor. Similarly, commuters coming from Noida will be able to reach KalindiKunj through the Magenta Line and then travel easily towards South Delhi and the airport through the new route," she said.
