Bhopal: Amid the ongoing investigation into the Twisha Sharma death case, Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar informed the media on Saturday that the police will seek a seven-day remand for Samarth Singh - the husband of the late actress - who has been taken into custody following his surrender at the Jabalpur district court on Friday.

Where will the second autopsy be conducted?

According to the police, the second autopsy will be carried out  by a medical team from AIIMS Delhi at AIIMS Bhopal. The development comes after Twisha’s family raised concerns over the first postmortem report and alleged irregularities in the initial investigation. The Commissioner also addressed the controversy surrounding Twisha’s height mentioned in the earlier report, calling it an “insignificant issue” in the broader investigation.

What action has the Bar Council taken?

A major development has emerged in the high-profile Twisha Sharma death case that has captured the nation's attention. The Bar Council of India has suspended the law license of the accused husband, Samarth Singh, with immediate effect. During the period of suspension, Samarth shall not appear before any court, tribunal, authority, or forum. During this time, he shall neither practice nor plead. He shall also refrain from engaging in the legal profession and shall not file any 'Vakalatnama' (Power of Attorney). Furthermore, he shall not represent himself as being authorized to practice law.

In the letter, the Chairman of the Bar Council of India wrote: "The present matter pertains to grave allegations arising from the death of Smt. Twisha Sharma—wife of Shri Samarth Singh, Advocate—which occurred within just a few months of her marriage at her matrimonial home in Bhopal. It has been brought to the notice of the Bar Council of India that an FIR has been registered against Shri Samarth Singh, Advocate, and other individuals regarding allegations of dowry death, cruelty, and related offenses. It has further been reported that Shri Samarth Singh, Advocate—who is the husband of the deceased—is absconding and is not cooperating with the investigation."

The letter further stated: "The allegations are extremely grave and have a direct bearing on the dignity, discipline, and public image of the legal profession. An advocate is not merely a private individual; rather, he is an officer of the court and a member of a regulated profession. The Bar Council of India bears a statutory obligation to uphold the sanctity of the legal profession and to ensure that the conduct of advocates does not undermine public trust in the administration of justice. In view of the gravity of the allegations, the alleged role of the advocate in the murder of his wife, the registration of criminal proceedings, the fact that the concerned advocate is the husband of the deceased, and the additional circumstance that he is reportedly absconding, it is deemed necessary to pass an immediate interim order in the interest of the legal profession and public trust."

The letter stated: "Accordingly, Mr. Samarth Singh, Advocate, is hereby suspended from practicing law as an advocate with immediate effect, pending further consideration of this matter by the Bar Council of India and/or the appropriate Disciplinary Committee. During the period of suspension, Mr. Samarth Singh, Advocate, shall not appear, act, plead, practice law, file a Vakalatnama, or hold himself out as authorized to practice law before any Court, Tribunal, Authority, or Forum in India. This matter shall be placed before the appropriate Disciplinary Committee/competent statutory body as expeditiously as possible, so that, after affording an appropriate opportunity in accordance with the law, orders regarding confirmation, modification, revocation, or other necessary directions may be passed."
