10,000 Kg Of Explosives Seized From Rajasthan Farm On Republic Day Eve

Jaipur: In a major security operation ahead of Republic Day, the police in Rajasthan's Nagaur district have seized nearly 10,000 kilograms of explosive material and detonators from a farm and arrested a man in connection with the recovery, an official said on Sunday.

The recovery was made late on Saturday evening, just hours before January 26 celebrations. 

Where was the explosive material found?

The raid was conducted in the Harsaur village under the Thawla police station area based on a tip-off, where the police team recovered 9,550kg of ammonium nitrate packed in 187 sacks from a field.

According to officials, apart from the ammonium nitrate, police have also seized  nine cartons of detonators, 12 cartons and 15 bundles of blue fuse wire, as well as 12 cartons and five bundles of red fuse wire.

What did police say?

A joint operation by the district special team and local police led to the seizure of nearly 10,000 kg of explosive material from a deserted farmhouse in Nagaur district.

Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa said that a man identified as, Suleman Khan, a resident of Harsaur village, was arrested at the spot and has three previous criminal cases registered against him.

“He admitted during initial interrogation that the explosive material was being sold to those engaged in unlawful mining operations,” the officer said.

Any case registered?

SP said that a case has been registered against him under the Explosives Act of 1884, the Explosive Substances Act of 1908 and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Kachhawa also said that the central agencies have been informed about the seizure, and they are likely to interrogate Khan as part of a larger investigation.

“The investigation is focused on identifying all those involved in the procurement, storage and distribution of these explosives,” a senior officer said. 

The accused has been produced before a court and remanded to police custody.
