Sri Ganganagar: Another case of honeymoon murder has come to light, a newlywed couple, Ashish and Anju, were out on a walk when a vehicle hit them. While, the man died on the spot, the woman was left unconscious on the road.

At first, the death which appeared like a hit-and-run case has now been declared a plotted murder in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan.

Why is the incident called honeymoon murder case?

According to media reports, police were informed regarding a hit-and-run incident after a couple was found lying injured on the road on January 30 evening.

Superintendent of Police, Sri Ganganagar, Amrita Duhan said that "the police received the information on the night of January 30, at around 9. The police were informed that a couple was lying unconscious on the road."

Later, the couple was taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC), where Ashish was declared dead by the doctors.

"We were informed that a man had been hit by an unidentified vehicle, leading to his death. We surveyed the accident site and also called the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to investigate from the technical point of view," said Duhan.

According to police, Anju, who is 23-year-old, informed that they had been out for an evening walk when they were struck by an unidentified vehicle and also claimed she had been robbed of her gold jewellery.

Why was there suspicion?

The police said that they grew suspicious when during the investigation they spotted discrepancies between on-ground reality and Anju's testimony.

And also the medical reports of Ashish showed signs of an assault and injury marks that appeared to have been strangled. And on the other, Anju’s injuries were minor

Later, when Anju's phone records were checked, it was discovered that she had been in a regular contact with a man named Sanju.

Police also got suspicious when Anju kept changing her statement.

Anju and Ashish married three months ago, but Anju was reportedly unhappy and went back to her hometown soon after. There she again met with her ex-boyfriend, Sanju.

"Anju had started accompanying Ashish on his post-dinner walks," said Duhan.

On January 30, Anju accompanied Ashish  on a walk and took him to an isolated road, where the three attackers - Sanju and his accomplices, Rocky, alias Rohit, and Badal, alias Siddharth, were allegedly hiding in the bushes.

"They attacked him brutally and also strangled him and then tried to pass it off as a road accident," Dhuan added.

Four arrests have been made in the case by the police so far.
