New Delhi: In Hinduism, every day of the week is dedicated to the worship of a specific deity. Today is Saturday. Saturdays are specifically devoted to the worship of Lord Shani (Saturn) and Lord Hanuman. Speaking of Lord Hanuman, his temples witness massive crowds of devotees on Saturdays. Everyone desires to receive his special grace and blessings.

Inside the temple, devotees seek Lord Hanuman's blessings by applying the 'sindoor' (vermilion) from his feet onto their foreheads. However, a question often arises in one's mind: Should everyone apply this 'sindoor'? Is it truly appropriate to do so? Or are there specific precautions one must observe while applying it? People are often confused regarding these questions. So, let us explore some facts related to this practice.

Should You Apply Lord Hanuman's Sindoor on Your Forehead?

How appropriate is it to apply Lord Hanuman's *sindoor* on one's forehead? Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham addressed this very issue during one of his discourses. He stated that—in response to the question of whether or not one should apply Lord Hanuman's *sindoor* on the forehead—there is, in fact, no necessity to do so. If Lord Hanuman intends to alleviate your suffering, he will do so regardless of whether you apply the *sindoor* or not.

Why You Should Not Apply the Sindoor on Your Forehead?

Continuing his discourse, Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri explained that Lord Hanuman is the very embodiment of incomparable strength and divine radiance (Tej). Furthermore, Lord Hanuman is a 'Brahmachari' (a celibate ascetic). Our human bodies, on the other hand, are inherently filled with imperfections and impurities. We, as humans, are simply unable to contain or withstand the intense divine energy (Tej) of Lord Hanuman. No matter how hard we strive to remain pure, some form of impurity or imperfection is bound to occur. He emphasized that a human being is rarely, if ever, in a state of absolute purity at all times. Given the immense intensity of Lord Hanuman's divine energy, one should not apply his *sindoor* to the forehead and then wear it continuously throughout the entire day.

What is The Proper Method for Applying and Removing the Sindoor?

He further advised that if one does choose to apply Lord Hanuman's *sindoor*, one should wear it only for a brief moment—specifically before any impure thoughts arise or before one's physical state becomes impure—and then wipe it off using a damp cloth. Subsequently, if you wash this cloth and pour the water at the roots of a tree, you may then apply Lord Hanuman's *sindoor* (vermilion). Thus, understand this concept: focus on keeping your actions righteous and your thoughts pure. Lord Hanuman will bestow His blessings upon us even without the application of *sindoor*. However, for those who wish to apply His *sindoor*, they may do so by utilizing it in the proper manner—applying it to the forehead and later removing it.

What is The Method for Offering Sindoor to Lord Hanuman?

In Hinduism, offering sindoor to Lord Hanuman during worship is considered highly auspicious. Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered the most suitable days for this practice. Simply take a bath and wear clean clothes before the worship begins; then, mix the sindoor with jasmine oil before offering it. Simultaneously, recite the mantra "Om Hanumate Namah" with sincere devotion. Thereafter, conclude the worship by reciting the Hanuman Chalisa. Finally, offer 'Bhog' (sacred food offering) to Lord Hanuman.
