New Delhi: Diesel SUVs enjoy immense popularity among driving enthusiasts. If you happen to be one of them, there is good news in store for you. In the coming days, several impressive turbo-diesel SUVs are set to make their debut in the Indian market. These include formidable models such as the Thar Facelift, the next-generation Creta, and the Toyota Hilux. Let's take a detailed look at these upcoming SUVs.
Based on an upgraded IMV platform, the new Hilux will feature a design that is even more appealing and aggressive than before. It will sport a new front fascia—a design element that Toyota refers to as the 'Cybersumo' face. Inside the cabin, one can expect to see a host of new design elements and features. The new Hilux will come equipped with a large infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and much more. Under the hood, the company is set to offer its reliable 2.8-liter diesel engine in the new Hilux. Toyota's new Hilux is expected to hit the market later this year.
Kia launched the second-generation Seltos in January of this year. The company is expected to introduce new top-end trims for the model by the middle of this year. Dubbed the GTX (O) and X-Line (O), these trims will be available with the option of a 1.5-liter diesel engine paired with an automatic transmission. These new variants will be priced higher than the currently available top-tier trims. The GTX (O) and X-Line (O) variants are likely to feature advanced amenities such as a Head-Up Display (HUD), a dashcam, and ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems).
The Scorpio Classic—a model that enjoys immense popularity in rural and semi-urban markets—is also set to receive a facelift this year. The update will involve only minor cosmetic tweaks. The company is expected to equip the SUV with a new grille, redesigned bumpers, improved alloy wheels, and updated lighting elements. The interior may feature a larger touchscreen, improved trim materials, and enhanced storage space compared to the previous model. The updated model will retain the same 2.2-liter diesel engine, paired with a manual gearbox.
Hyundai is set to launch the next-generation Creta in India either in late 2026 or early 2027. This iteration will be based on the third-generation K3 platform. In addition to various petrol and hybrid engine options, it will also be available with a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine—the very same engine currently offered in the outgoing model. The next-generation model will boast a fresh design and offer an elevated cabin experience.
Mahindra is currently working on a facelift for its three-door Thar. Its styling is set to undergo significant changes; specifically, it will incorporate several design elements borrowed from the five-door 'Roxx' model. Furthermore, the three-door Thar facelift will introduce a host of new features, such as automatic climate control and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. As before, it will continue to offer two diesel engine options: the 1.5-liter and 2.2-liter turbocharged engines.
