CBSE to Refund Extra Charges Deducted for Class 12 Answer Sheet Copies Amid Portal Glitch (X)

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important clarification regarding the post-results process for Class 12 for the examination session. According to the official notice dated May 24, 2026, some technical issues were encountered while requesting scanned copies of answer sheets. This resulted in fee deduction errors for many students. In some cases, students were overcharged, while in others, a system error resulted in undercharges.

What did CBSE say?

The board has clarified that students who have been overcharged will be refunded the excess amount through the same payment method (e.g., UPI, card, etc.). Those who have been undercharged will be notified separately about depositing the remaining amount. Furthermore, all affected students will be provided with their scanned answer sheets without any new application.

CBSE, in an official notification, said, "On 21-22 May 2026, certain technical issues led to incorrect fee deductions in some cases while students were applying for scanned copies. In some instances, excess payment was deducted, while in others, lesser amounts were charged. In all cases of excess payment, the exact excess amounts shall be refunded to the same payment method which was used for payment. Similarly, in cases where a lesser payment was deducted, candidates shall be informed separately regarding payment of the balance amount, if required. Scanned copies of the evaluated answer books shall be provided in all such cases, without candidates being required to submit fresh requests. Affected stakeholders may kindly take note of the above."

CBSE issues alert regarding fake circular

CBSE has issued a 'Fake News Alert' on its official social media account, advising students and parents to be cautious. According to the board, a fake circular is being widely circulated on social media, claiming that the process of obtaining answer sheet copies and re-evaluation has been cancelled due to technical problems.

CBSE has termed this claim as completely false. The board has clarified that this circular is fake and students should not believe any such rumours. CBSE wrote in its post, "Beware of fake news and rumours. Verify any information only through the official website of CBSE."
