Amid Rising Diplomacy With Iran, Trump Puts ‘Project Freedom’ on Hold (X)
Washington: US President Donald Trump made a big announcement on Tuesday saying that America is stopping its 'Project Freedom' campaign for some time. Trump said that this decision has been taken on the request of many countries including Pakistan and to finalize the possible agreement with Iran. However, he clarified that the US naval blockade in the area will continue as before.
'Project Freedom' is America's plan under which the safe movement of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz was to be ensured. This area is considered very important in terms of oil supply in the world.
The Trump administration had started this mission after the increasing tension between America and Iran, so that control and security of sea routes could be maintained.
Donald Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social that in view of the requests of many countries and the progress made in negotiations with Iran, it has been agreed to stop this project for some time.
He said that this decision has been taken so that it can be seen whether the agreement with Iran can be finalized or not.
Although Project Freedom has been temporarily halted, Trump made it clear that the US naval blockade will continue in its entirety. He described the recent military action as a “major success” and said the US would maintain its pressure in the region.
Iran has reacted sharply to this step of America. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the US strategy further jeopardized the safety of ships in the area.
He also said that Iran will not give up its control over the Strait of Hormuz and the presence of the US and its allies in the region will reduce in the times to come.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that peace in the region is possible only if Iran accepts America's conditions regarding its nuclear program.
He also said that fully opening the Strait of Hormuz is extremely important for global energy supply. According to Rubio, the US military presence is a “defensive operation” and talks are continuing at the diplomatic level.
