Trump is alien? At a town hall in Philadelphia on October 18, 2024, Elon Musk shared a bold vision of the future, suggesting that Mars could one day save Earth just as the United States saved Europe in the past. Musk spoke about the necessity of making life multiplanetary, emphasizing that humanity must reach a point where Mars can thrive independently, even if Earth can no longer provide resources.

"I do think there is an important threshold if we are able to make life multiplanetary, that you can get to the point on Mars where Mars can grow by itself, even if the resupply ships from Earth stop coming," Musk said, outlining a scenario where Mars becomes self-sustaining. This threshold, he noted, would significantly extend the potential lifespan of human civilization.

Musk stressed that merely establishing a small base on Mars would not suffice. “It’s not enough just to go to Mars and have a small base or something like that,” he said. To ensure the survival of civilization, Mars must have the necessary resources to continue without Earth's support. He warned that Earth could face an untimely end, either in a dramatic or slow decline, the latter fueled by the decreasing birth rate. Musk predicted that this decline could result in a grim fate, symbolically referring to it as "trending to end with a whimper in adult diapers."

However, Musk sees hope in making life sustainable across planets. “As soon as we can make life multiplanetary, sustainably multiplanetary, the probable lifespan of civilization is dramatically greater,” he stated. He framed this as humanity's critical challenge, questioning whether civilization could achieve this milestone before its collapse.

In an optimistic turn, Musk suggested that if humanity succeeds in this venture, the future would be "exciting and bright." He drew a historical parallel, speculating that Mars could one day return the favor to Earth in the same way America came to Europe’s aid multiple times in the 20th century. "Three times, America saved the world last century," he reminded the audience, underscoring how catastrophic the world might have been without the U.S. "And one day, Mars may play that same role on Earth."
