Trump posted on Truth Social and claimed that 86-year-old Khamenei was also killed. He wrote that "Khamenei, one of the most brutal men in history, is dead. This is justice for the people of Iran, justice for Americans, and justice for those around the world who were killed or maimed by Khamenei and his henchmen." Trump further said that now is the biggest opportunity for the Iranian people to "take back" their country. He also said that "heavy and precise bombing" would continue without pause throughout the week until there was peace in the Middle East and the entire world.

But the Iranian Foreign Ministry and other officials said the supreme leader was "safe and well." They described Trump's statement as "psychological warfare" and "false news." There has been no official confirmation of Khamenei's death from Tehran yet.
