PM Modi Visits Prambanan Temple; Says Indonesia's Air Carries The Fragrance Of Culture (X: @narendramodi)

Yogyakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited the historic Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, alongside Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and called it a "Majestic Prambanan Temple!".

Where did PM Modi visit?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A day earlier, India and Indonesia had agreed to launch a conservation and restoration project for the temple complex. 

An agreement has also been signed between the two countries in this regard. India will provide assistance in this project. Modi arrived in Jakarta on Monday on the first leg of his three-nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand. He will leave for Australia after all the programs today.

What happen before the visit?

Prime Minister Modi and President Subianto arrived by plane to visit the heritage site. They also inaugurated the Prambanan Temple restoration project in Yogyakarta. Before his visit, Prime Minister Modi wrote in a post on X, "On the way to the Prambanan Temple from Yogyakarta with President Prabowo Subianto." He also shared a photo of the two leaders shaking hands on a plane. The post also read, "The majestic Prambanan Temple!"

Before visiting the temple, PM Modi discussed several important issues with President Prabowo Subianto in Indonesia today. The two leaders discussed in detail the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), BrahMos missile and cooperation in the agriculture sector. 

After the agreements and bilateral meeting, PM Modi described the shared culture of the two countries as a strength. As per the agreement reached on the issue related to EVMs, both the countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the export of customized Indian Electronic Voting Machines.

Why is Prambanan Temple special?

The Prambanan Temple Complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Yogyakarta. This centuries-old temple is located about 17 kilometers northeast of the city of Yogyakarta. It is considered the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. Built in the 10th century, it is the largest temple complex dedicated to Shiva in Indonesia. According to the UNESCO website, above the final center of these concentric squares are three temples. These are decorated with carvings depicting the epic of Ramayana. They are dedicated to the three great Hindu gods (Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma). Three temples are dedicated to the animals that serve them.
