Bihar: Bihar is fully prepared for the counting of votes today. Voting held in two phases—6 and 11 November—has made this election very interesting. Record voting and tough competition on many high-profile seats have made it clear that the results can change the equations of power. From Patna to Seemanchal, the reputation of both the NDA and the Grand Alliance is at stake.

Which contests will decide the future of Patna's power?

In this election, the contest between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav was the most prominent. Both the alliances have put forth their respective strengths. The seats in and around the capital, Patna, are deciding the real mood of this election.

Union Minister Ramkripal Yadav (NDA) and RJD's Reet Lal Yadav are face-to-face in Danapur. This contest reflects the urban-rural voter divide of Patna. Nearby in Maner, Jitendra Yadav (NDA) is contesting against experienced MLA and RJD leader Bhai Virendra. Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav (Grand Alliance) is one of the most talked about entries of this election in the Chapra seat of Saran; NDA's Chhoti Kumari is in the fray in front of him.

In Phulwari, former minister Shyam Rajak (NDA) is facing Gopal Ravidas (Grand Alliance). Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary is in the fray from Tarapur, where Grand Alliance's Arun Kumar is challenging. BJP's Ratnesh Kushwaha (NDA) is taking on Congress' Shashant Shekhar (Grand Alliance) in the Patna Sahib seat, where upper-caste and urban politics could prove decisive.

Youth versus veterans—interesting contests on many seats

In Lakhisarai, former Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha (NDA) and the young face of Grand Alliance, Aman Raj, alias Sonu Singh, are face-to-face.

In Mahua, the contest has become three-cornered—between NDA's Sanjay Kumar Singh, Grand Alliance's Mukesh Roshan, and Jan Janta Dal's Tej Pratap Yadav. Tejashwi Yadav himself is in the fray in Raghopur. Here he is competing against NDA's Satish Kumar Yadav and Jan Suraj's Chanchal Singh. There is a fierce fight in Mokama between strongman Anant Singh (NDA), Suraj Bhan Singh (Mahagathbandhan), and Piyush Priyadarshi (Jan Suraj).

From Gopal Mandal to Nalanda—stakes are high at every step

  • In Gopalpur, there is a triangular contest between NDA's Dablu Yadav, Grand Alliance's Shailesh Mandal, and independent Gopal Mandal.
  • In Nalanda, there is a direct contest between Nitish Kumar's close aide Shravan Kumar (NDA) versus Kaushalendra Kumar (Grand Alliance).
  • Chandreshwar Prasad of NDA and Rahul Sharma of Congress are face-to-face in Jehanabad.
  • In Muzaffarpur, there is a contest between BJP's Ranjan Kumar and Grand Alliance's Vijendra Chaudhary. In Siwan, Karakat, Raghunathpur, and Ghosi, both the alliances are also clashing with full force. The battle of Alinagar is also in the news, where Maithili singer and social activist Maithili Thakur (NDA) is contesting against RJD's Binod Mishra.
  • In Kumhrar, BJP's Sanjay Gupta is being challenged by Congress's Inderdeep Chandravanshi and JSP's KC Sinha.

Today the decision will be clear—whose hard work pays off?

Overall, this election is not just a contest between candidates but a real test of the strength of alliances, the hold of regional leadership, and social equations. Today's vote counting will decide whether public opinion in Bihar wants change or will once again rely on stability and experience.
