The ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj has seen an astounding 35 million devotees take a dip in the sacred Triveni Sangam. Amid the sea of devotees, a notable figure has emerged—Abhay Singh, also known as "IITian Baba," who has drawn attention with his spiritual transformation.

From engineering to spirituality

Abhay Singh, who studied Aerospace Engineering at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, turned away from the world of science to embrace spirituality. Known for his calm demeanor, cheerful attitude, and insightful wisdom, Singh explained that he had initially pursued a career in engineering but later found solace in seeking deeper understanding and spirituality.

He adopted the name Masani Gorakh and dedicated his life to Lord Shiva. Originally from Haryana, Singh studied at IIT Bombay for four years before shifting his career path. He pursued postgraduate studies in design and even worked as a photographer.

A journey of self-discovery

Singh's spiritual journey was not immediate. After several career setbacks, he turned inward, exploring philosophy with courses on postmodernism, Socrates, and Plato. Eventually, he realized that true knowledge lies not in material pursuits but in spiritual enlightenment. As IITian Baba reflected, "To understand the mind or mental health, you must do so through spirituality."

His transformation has led him to the Mahakumbh, where he now participates in the spiritual congregation, offering wisdom and guidance to those around him. Singh is unapologetic about his journey, emphasizing that achieving this spiritual understanding is the ultimate goal of life.

The spiritual gathering of lifetime

The Mahakumbh 2025, a 45-day spiritual gathering held once every 144 years, is expected to attract over 450 million devotees. It will continue until February 26, offering a chance for millions to immerse themselves in spiritual awakening at the Triveni Sangam.
