A horrific incident has been reported from Karnataka where a 28-year-old married woman has been raped by a man in front of his wife forcing her to convert her to Islam through blackmailing using ger explicit photos.

According to the sources, an FIR has been lodged against seven people in connection with the case. As per the preliminary investigation, the complaint alleged that she was raped by a man in front of his wife and was forced to wear ‘burkha’ and asked to remove ‘kumkum’ from her forehead.

The accused, known as Rafik, and his spouse coerced the woman into having intercourse with them. Subsequently, he took private pictures of her and used these as leverage to demand that she convert from Islam to Hinduism.

According to the police, Rafik and his spouse forced the woman to relocate into their Belagavi home in 2023 and made her do everything they asked of her. When the three of them shared a home last year, the woman claimed that Rafik had sexually assaulted her in front of his wife.

But this month, the couple forced her to perform five times namaz and asked her to wear a ‘burkha.’ The victim also alleged that she was abused with caste-based slurs as she belongs to a backward class. She also alleged that the accused forced her to give divorce to her husband and threatened to leak intimate photos if she didn’t agree to demands. She was also threatened to kill if she didn’t covert.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a complaint against seven people. As per sources, the accused will face the charges under the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, relevant sections of the IT law, the SC/ST Act, and the Indian Penal Code, including those for rape, kidnapping, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation.
