Uttar Pradesh: Noida Police arrested five criminals after two separate incidents of encounters on Monday, officials said. Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone II, Shakti Mohan Awasthi, stated that on the morning of January 20, a police team from Phase-II police station was conducting checks near the red light of Sector 92 when they spotted a suspect approaching on a motorcycle. When the police signaled him to stop, he attempted to flee.

First Encounter Details

Awasthi reported that after being surrounded by the police, the accused opened fire on the officers, who retaliated. The suspect was injured during the exchange and has been identified as Lalit, a resident of Anupshahr in Bulandshahr district. He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. A country-made pistol, cartridges, and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from him. Lalit has 17 previous cases registered against him and confessed during interrogation that he was involved in thefts and robberies.

Second Encounter Overview

In another incident, a team from Sector 24 police station arrested four criminals accused of breaking into a paint shop and stealing lakhs of rupees after an encounter in the early hours of Monday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone I, Rambadan Singh, explained that when the Sector 24 police team was conducting checks at the ‘T Point’ of Sector 54 late Sunday night, they observed several individuals engaged in suspicious activities. Upon interrogation attempts by the police, the suspects opened fire and fled.

Arrest and Confessions

Following the retaliatory action by police, one of the miscreants was injured by police bullets. All four criminals were subsequently arrested, with a country-made pistol, cartridges, a knife, ₹40,000 in cash, and tools used for theft recovered from them. The injured criminal, Jahar Singh, admitted to being a resident of Bajura district in Nepal. His accomplices Deepak Giri alias Dam Bahadur and Vinod Thapa are also from Bajura district, while another partner, Narendra, hails from Kailali district.

Conclusion

The DCP stated that during interrogation, the arrested criminals confessed to committing thefts by breaking into houses and shops after conducting reconnaissance. They also admitted to breaking into a paint shop located in Sector 11 on January 9 and stealing ₹4.5 lakh from there. The shopkeeper had filed a case at Sector 24 police station on January 10.
