Bihar: A shocking incident has emerged from Darbhanga, Bihar, where a man allegedly killed his wife due to the family’s obsession with having a son. The woman, identified as 29-year-old Ghurni Devi, was married to Chandan Mukhiya, a labourer from Madhubani district. Her body was discovered on Sunday along the Barhi-Lahwar Road in the Kevati police station area.

Harassment over not bearing a son

According to reports, Ghurni Devi had given birth to two daughters, which led to constant harassment by her in-laws. Her brother, Bikau Mukhiya, alleged that her husband, along with his parents and sister, was responsible for the murder. The family reportedly pressured her because she could not give birth to a son.

Bikau revealed that his sister was subjected to continuous abuse after her two daughters were born. When she became pregnant for the third time, her husband forced her to abort the child before Diwali. The abortion led to disputes between the couple, forcing Ghurni to return to her parental home. However, following a village council intervention, she returned to her husband’s home before the Chhath festival.

Discovery of the body

On Sunday morning, Ghurni’s in-laws informed her family that she had gone missing. Her family began searching for her, only to find her body later that day at Laila Chaur. Devastated by the discovery, her family rushed to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where they identified her remains.

Kevati Station House Officer Rahul Kumar stated that the body was handed over to the family after identification. An official case will be registered once a formal complaint is filed.
