New Delhi: The country's largest airline IndiGo is in such a crisis these days, which is directly affecting the common passengers. The glitch that started on December 2 has now spread across the entire network. The situation is that Indigo has so far canceled more than 1,800 flights and more than two lakh passengers have been affected by this. The trouble isn't just limited to flight cancellations—for the flights that are available, ticket prices are seen to be several times higher than usual.
A senior travel industry official told PTI that the shortage of pilot crew has made the situation worse. According to him, fares have jumped three to four times on many routes. He said, "In today's situation, it is difficult to estimate how much a flight will cost. Many tickets have been seen being sold six times more expensive than the normal average."
Fares on some routes have gone up so much that passengers have started comparing that even traveling abroad is now becoming cheaper. For example, fares on routes like Delhi to Bengaluru, Mumbai to Bhubaneswar and Kolkata to Mumbai reached Rs 80 thousand to Rs 1 lakh.
On December 6, the fare on this busy route was recorded between Rs 27,760 to Rs 49,880 including taxes. On normal days, the same ticket is available for Rs 6,000–6,200. Only Air India, Air India Express and SpiceJet were able to operate flights on Saturday.
In return, the price of Mumbai-Delhi tickets went up to Rs 21,268-46,899.
Delhi–Hyderabad: Ticket prices ranged between Rs 37,320–42,112. In some flights this fare even went up to Rs 87 thousand.
