North India on High Alert: Punjab Flooded, Delhi Braces for Overflow, States Warned

Red alert for heavy rain in many districts of Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal today.

National News: Continuous rains have worsened the situation in many states of North India. Rivers are in spate in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, and there is a threat of floods in the low-lying areas.

Punjab completely flooded

The continuous inflow of water from Himachal has become a disaster for Punjab. All 23 districts of the state have been declared flood-affected. Due to the cracks in the Nangal Hydel Channel, the water being released into the Sutlej has now reached the towns and villages situated on the banks. More than 1,400 villages have been affected here, and more than 3.5 lakh people are in trouble. So far 30 deaths have been confirmed. A girl died due to a roof collapse in the Amritsar district, while many people were injured. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the affected areas and took stock of the situation.

Flood threat in Haryana and Delhi

It rained continuously in 16 districts of Haryana on Tuesday. The Ghaggar river is flowing above the danger mark in Fatehabad district, and 30 villages are flooded. Waterlogging on roads in Gurugram and Faridabad has halted traffic.

Water rising towards Delhi is also a cause of concern. Water released from Hathini Kund Barrage has reached the capital. Yamuna had crossed the danger mark on Monday night, and on Tuesday its level crossed 206 meters. Water has entered the houses in low-lying areas like Yamuna Bazaar and Monastery Bazaar. More than 15,000 people have been sent to relief camps.

Disaster in Himachal and Jammu

Landslides and heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh. Many people have died due to the collapse of houses and landslides in Kullu, Mandi, and Solan. In Sundarnagar, a mother and daughter lost their lives after being buried under debris. Due to heavy rains, many national highways and hundreds of small roads are closed. The situation is also out of control in the Jammu division. Two people have died due to a house collapse in Kathua. A large part of the Jammu-Srinagar highway was washed away in Udhampur. Rivers like Chenab and Tawi are in spate, and the gates of Salal Dam had to be opened.

Hundreds of roads closed in Uttarakhand

More than 250 roads in Uttarakhand are blocked due to rain and landslides. The bridge of Yamunotri Highway in Uttarkashi has submerged in water. SDRF rescued 110 people trapped in a flood in the Khatima area. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in seven districts, including Dehradun.

Crisis in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

A heavy rain warning has been issued in more than 50 districts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Four people died in incidents of lightning and wall collapse in Kanpur.

Rivers like Ganga, Kosi, and Bagmati are continuously rising in Bihar. The Ganga is flowing above the danger mark, and many villages have been submerged. Five people have drowned while bathing. The water discharge of the Kosi River in Supaul was recorded at 2.77 lakh cusecs, the highest this year.

Dam broke in Rajasthan

Many villages were submerged due to the breaking of a kutcha dam in the Lalsot area in the Dausa district of Rajasthan. Water has entered the houses of the villagers, and the administration is engaged in relief work. Accidents have also been reported in Pratapgarh and Sawai Madhopur. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain for the next four days.
