In a high-energy mahapanchayat held on Sunday to save the historic village of Anangpur in Haryana’s Faridabad district, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj delivered a rousing speech calling for unity against what he described as a conspiracy to erase a 1300-year-old heritage. Acting on the instructions of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, a party delegation attended the gathering to stand in solidarity with local villagers.

“When everyone stands united, the BJP government will be forced to bow,” Bharadwaj declared amid loud cheers from the crowd.

'The Villages Are Now United to Protect 1300-Year-Old Heritage'

Calling the government’s actions a deliberate attempt to destroy Anangpur’s legacy, Bharadwaj said the village and its surrounding areas were fully united now.
He drew a comparison to the successful farmers' protests against the three controversial farm laws, stating:

“When farmers united against the black laws, the central government had to withdraw them. If they can bring ordinances to overturn court decisions for their gain, they can bring one to protect millions of people too.”

Govt Is Fighting Against Villagers in Court

Addressing the gathering, Bharadwaj criticized the government for weaponizing the judiciary against the villagers. He said that while the government blames court orders, it was the one that approached the courts against its own citizens:

“They have powerful lawyers. Villagers will obviously lose in court. The government should be fighting for the people, not against them.” He emphasized that using court rulings as an excuse is merely a convenient smokescreen when it suits the government’s interests.

When It Wants, the Govt Can Overturn the Courts

Citing previous instances, Bharadwaj noted how the Centre had issued ordinances to nullify Supreme Court rulings within a week: “When the Supreme Court empowered Delhi’s elected government, the Centre reversed it in 7 days through an ordinance.” “When the court passed a law to regulate the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, the Centre didn’t like it — and overturned that too.” “So don’t tell us courts can’t be overruled — they are, whenever it suits those in power.”

Call Us When the Bulldozers Come — We’ll Stand With You

Ending his speech with a powerful promise, Bharadwaj called on everyone to alert him and his fellow MLAs if demolition begins in Anangpur:

“The day bulldozers enter the village, raise your voice — the entire Aam Aadmi Party will come from Delhi and stand with you. If we all stand in front of the bulldozers, no one will have the courage to move us.” He also pointed out the disproportionate impact this eviction would have on the Gurjar community and rural families, urging the government to act to protect — not displace — its citizens. Among those present in the AAP delegation were Braham Singh Tanwar, Mahabal Mishra, Sahiram Pehalwan, Ramesh Pehalwan, and Krishna Jakhad, along with several representatives from the Gurjar community.

Later, on X (formerly Twitter), Saurabh Bharadwaj reiterated:

“Today’s mahapanchayat in Anangpur was a strong stand against the BJP government’s bulldozer politics. Villages are united to protect our 1300-year-old heritage — and when we stand together, this government will have to yield.”
