BCCI on Alert Over Honey-Trap and Fixing Threats in IPL 2026, Issues Strict Guidelines (OpenAi)

New Delhi: More than half of the IPL 2026 season has been completed, but in the meantime some such incidents have come to light which have increased the concern of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. After this, the board has issued a new seven-page guideline for players, support staff and team owners.

BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit has raised serious questions regarding the presence of unauthorized people in the team dugouts, hotels and team buses. After this, an advisory has been sent to all the franchises and an important meeting of the CEOs of the teams has also been called this weekend.

What is BCCI worried about?

According to reports, many players and people associated with the team had started taking the rules lightly. In some cases, outsiders were seen reaching the team bus and dressing room. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said that the rules related to the conduct of players and teams have been in force since 2008, but now they will be strictly followed. The board has also received some confidential information from the anti-corruption unit, after which surveillance has been further increased.

Which cases related to Rajasthan Royals increased the problems?

The two cases confirmed by BCCI are both related to Rajasthan Royals.

  • In the first case, the team manager was caught using a mobile phone in the dugout. In another case, the video of Captain Riyan Parag vaping in the dressing room had gone viral.
  • The board has imposed fines in both these cases, but the investigation into the vaping case is still going on.

What new rules were made for players?

  • In the new guidelines, players have been asked to beware of dangers like honey traps. The board believes that there may be an attempt to implicate high-profile players, which could lead to legal and image related disputes.
  • Apart from this, now no outsider will be able to enter the players' room without written permission. Players will have to inform the security officials before leaving the hotel.
  • BCCI has also shown strictness regarding ID cards. Now it will be mandatory for players and staff to wear ID cards at all times in the stadium, hotel and during practice.

What new rule came regarding team owners?

  • BCCI has clearly said that team owners should maintain distance from the players during the match.
  • Now the owners will not be able to go to the dugout or dressing room and talk to the players nor will they be able to hug them during the match. The board has called it necessary to maintain the decorum and professional atmosphere of the match.
  • Also, vaping has been completely banned in dressing rooms, hotels and team areas. Since e-cigarettes are illegal in India, legal action may be taken against those who break the rules.
