Red Fort, Delhi Assembly receive bomb threat from Khalistani group (X)
New Delhi: The Delhi Police received bomb threat emails on Monday, which threatened to blow the Delhi Assembly and Red Fort, the mail which referenced a Khalistani group triggered panic among authorities, after which an immediate response from security agencies were rushed to the locations, official said.
A massive search operation was launched at the Delhi Assembly complex following the email. Authorities responded immediately, sending police, bomb disposal teams and fire tenders to investigate the matter. The teams carried out an intensive sweep of the premises, but no suspicious object was found.
The police officials said that the warnings are being treated seriously, but thorough checks have so far not confirmed any real danger. All necessary precautionary measures are being maintained.
According to officials, the threatening email is currently under investigation, to trace its origin and identify the sender and the cyber cell has also joined the probe.
In the morning, several schools in Delhi received a same bomb threat via email, which lead to the immediate evacuation of students and staff. Soon after receiving information about it, police thoroughly searched the premises. But officials later confirmed that no suspicious items were discovered.
As per the officer from the Delhi Fire Service, information regarding the bomb threat was received at around 8:50 am. Following which, teams from the fire department, Bomb Detection Team (BDT), Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and a dog squad rushed to the scene and carried out thorough checks.
The development comes at time when the intelligence agencies have already raised potential terror threat near the Red Fort area. Security forces are closely monitoring Chandni Chowk, including a well-known temple in the locality, amid fears of an attack.
Intelligence sources suggest that the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba could be planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in the national capital.
