Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court gave Chief Minister Hemant Soren big relief. The court dismissed criminal proceedings against him. The case was about alleged election code violation during the 2014 assembly elections. Justice Anil Kumar Chowdhury heard the case and threw it out. Soren was being tried in a West Singhbhum district court. That case is now over.

What the case was about?

Back in 2014, an FIR was filed against Soren. The police in Adityapur said he violated election code. Soren challenged this in High Court. The High Court had already stopped the proceedings against him while it heard arguments.

What the defense had said?

Soren's lawyer told the court that he did nothing wrong. He said Soren never broke any code of conduct. The lawyer claimed the FIR was filed because of political hatred. Someone wanted to harm him politically. The defense also said Soren only did campaign work for his party's candidate. That is a normal thing and politicians do that all the time during elections. The charges against him had no facts behind them, the defense argued.

What was the decision?

The High Court heard both sides. Then it decided to dismiss the case. The criminal proceedings against Soren are finished. He got big legal relief. This means Soren walks free from this case. Now, no trial, no conviction will be occur. The case had been finished now.
