Bhopal: Samarth Singh, the absconding husband of model-actor Twisha Sharma - who died under suspicious circumstances -surrendered before the Jabalpur District Court on Friday. According to Samarth Singh's lawyer, Jaideep Kaurav, he decided to surrender after withdrawing his anticipatory bail plea.

During the surrender, Samarth Singh wore a face mask and a cap to conceal his identity. When journalists questioned him regarding Twisha's death and the allegations leveled against him, he maintained complete silence.

Notably, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had granted the accused, Samarth Singh, the option to surrender either before the court or the police. Samarth Singh's lawyer, Saurabh Sundar, subsequently stated, "Samarth Singh has come here to surrender. We are filing a petition before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)."

How Much Reward Had the Police anounced on Samarth?

The Bhopal Police had also announced a cash reward of Rs 30,000 for anyone providing information that could lead to the arrest of the accused, Samarth Singh. Additionally, they filed a petition in court seeking the cancellation of his passport.

What allegations did Twisha's uncle level on accused?

Twisha's uncle, Lokesh Sharma, has raised serious questions regarding the timing and location of Samarth's surrender. He alleged that Samarth deliberately chose to surrender in a jurisdiction where he wields significant influence.

What Objections Were Raised by the Victim's Family?

Samarth Singh's mother, Giribala Singh, is a retired judge herself. The uncle claims that she possesses deep-rooted connections within the judiciary. The accused, Samarth, has himself served as a legal advisor to the Madhya Pradesh government; consequently, he is well-versed in every legal nuance and knows exactly how to seek legal relief.

The uncle alleged, "This District Court is akin to his own home. He has come here specifically to leverage his contacts within the system to weaken the case against him."

What did Twisha's brother say?

Twisha's brother, Major Harshit Sharma, hailed this surrender as the first victory for justice. He stated that Samarth has now realized that the entire nation stands in solidarity with Twisha, and that there is no longer any avenue left for him to hide. Major Harshit Sharma stated, "If he had nothing to hide, why didn't he surrender earlier instead of remaining in hiding for 10 days? The support of the public and the pressure of the law have compelled him to come out."

The upcoming 72 hours are crucial in the Twisha Sharma case. In fact, following an order from the MP High Court, a panel of doctors from AIIMS Delhi is arriving in Bhopal to conduct a second post-mortem examination of the body.

Meanwhile, a petition seeking the cancellation of the bail granted to the accused mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, is scheduled to be heard before a single-judge bench of the High Court on Monday, May 25, at 2:30 PM.

What is the full case?

It is pertinent to note that Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her in-laws' residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12. The family of the 33-year-old model-turned-actress has accused her in-laws of driving their daughter to her death. Conversely, the in-laws claim that Twisha suffered from drug addiction.

Although Twisha's initial post-mortem was conducted at AIIMS Bhopal, her family had demanded a second post-mortem, citing certain procedural irregularities.

Two days ago, Anudita Gupta, a Judicial Magistrate First Class in Bhopal, had dismissed the family's petition. Following this, the family approached the High Court. The High Court has directed the State Government to make arrangements to bring a team of doctors from the Delhi-based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to Bhopal.
