Bhopal: The case regarding the suspicious death of 31-year-old model and actress Twisha Sharma—who moved from Noida to Bhopal following her marriage—continues to take new turns. In the latest development in this high-profile case, a second post-mortem examination of the body was conducted on Sunday at AIIMS Bhopal, under tight security arrangements, in an effort to uncover the truth.
This procedure was carried out following directives from the High Court, with the aim of finding answers to the questions being raised regarding the cause of death. A team of experts from AIIMS Delhi, having completed the post-mortem procedure, has since departed Bhopal.
The deceased's brother, Major Harshit Sharma, informed the media that the final rites would be performed at 5:00 PM at the Bhadbhada Crematorium. A four-member team of expert doctors from AIIMS Delhi had arrived in Bhopal late on Saturday night.
The case has now garnered attention at the national level as well. Taking *suo motu* (on its own) cognizance of the matter, the Supreme Court has scheduled a special hearing. A special bench comprising Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi will hear the case on Monday, May 25.
The apex court has registered the matter under the category of "alleged institutional bias and procedural irregularities associated with the unnatural death of a young woman at her matrimonial home." This observation has raised several serious questions regarding the initial police and administrative actions taken in the case.
It is noteworthy that Twisha Sharma, who had tied the knot in December, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12. Following the incident, her family members alleged dowry harassment, based on which a case was registered against her husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh.
After remaining absconding for approximately 10 days, Samarth Singh surrendered before a court in Jabalpur on Friday; the police subsequently took him into custody and brought him to Bhopal. A local court has remanded him to police custody for seven days. Meanwhile, the mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, has failed to appear before the police for questioning despite having been issued repeated notices.
Meanwhile, the deceased's brother, Major Harshit Sharma, has reiterated his demand for the initiation of a CBI inquiry as soon as possible to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter. The State Government has already recommended a CBI inquiry. Currently, all eyes are fixed on the second post-mortem report and the Supreme Court hearing.
