Firozabad: Panic gripped the Linepar police station area of Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday when a massive fire suddenly broke out in a wagon of a freight train stationed on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). Within moments, the fire intensified, sending a huge plume of black smoke billowing into the sky. The flames and smoke were visible from several kilometers away, causing panic among nearby villages. Upon receiving the information, police, fire brigade, and railway security agencies rushed to the scene and initiated relief and rescue operations.
According to reports, smoke was suddenly spotted rising from a wagon of a freight train parked on the DFC line near Rupaspur around 4 PM on Wednesday. Initially, people dismissed it as a minor incident, but within minutes, the fire rapidly engulfed the entire wagon.
Alarmed by the severity of the fire, locals immediately alerted the police and the fire brigade. Teams arriving at the site assessed the situation and launched an operation to extinguish the blaze.
Four fire tenders arrived at the scene immediately after the incident was reported. The fire was intense and spreading rapidly, requiring firefighters to put in significant effort to bring it under control. After an operation lasting several hours, the fire was successfully contained through joint efforts.
Teams from the local administration worked alongside the fire brigade to continuously monitor the situation, ensuring the fire did not spread to surrounding areas or other wagons.
Following reports of the fire, police personnel from multiple stations, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Government Railway Police (GRP), and railway officials arrived at the site. A security perimeter was established around the area while relief and rescue operations were carried out.
Officials kept bystanders at a safe distance, and additional security arrangements were put in place to handle any untoward situation.
There have been no reports of casualties or injuries in this incident, bringing relief to the administration and local residents. Since the fire broke out on the Dedicated Freight Corridor's goods train line, regular passenger train services remained unaffected. Railway officials stated that the situation is fully under control and that adherence to safety standards is being ensured.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear. The railway administration and relevant departments have initiated an investigation. Officials say that the exact cause—whether a technical glitch, a chemical reaction involving the cargo, or something else—will only be determined once the investigation report is received.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire was so intense that a thick plume of black smoke was visible from several kilometers away. Upon seeing the flames, residents from nearby villages rushed to the scene. Following the incident, there is widespread speculation in the area regarding the cause of the fire.
