American XL Bully dangers: In a tragic incident, two American XL Bully dogs attacked and killed a 52-year-old man, raising fresh concerns about the dangers posed by this breed. While American XL Bullies are not officially recognized as a specific breed in the UK, they are known for their large, muscular build and powerful bite, which can cause severe injury or, as in this case, fatal outcomes.

What Is an American XL Bully?

The American XL Bully is the largest variant of the American Bully breed. These dogs are described as muscular, with a blocky head and a strong, sturdy frame that suggests immense power. Male XL Bullies typically stand at least 20 inches (51 cm) tall at the shoulder, while females are slightly smaller. Despite the absence of an official breed classification in the UK, dogs are considered XL Bullies if they meet certain height and physical characteristics.

How dangerous are they?

The danger posed by American XL Bullies comes largely from their physical strength and powerful jaws. According to vetnarian Richard Baker, the injuries inflicted by these dogs can be much more severe compared to other breeds. "It's a crushing or a tearing injury," Baker explained. "Once they grip, they don't let go." The force of their bite can break bones, shred skin, and cause nerve damage, making them particularly dangerous if they become aggressive.

While there are no official figures on the number of American XL Bullies in the world, the breed has been involved in several high-profile incidents of attacks on people and other animals. Their size, combined with their strength and sometimes unpredictable behavior, has led to growing calls for stricter regulations or even a ban on the breed.
