Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Chandrasekar Joseph Vijay on Sunday took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, ending days of uncertainty over the government formation in the state, with this his party has become the first non-DMK, non-AIADMK government in nearly 60 years.

To cross the magic majority mark of 118 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, it took about five days, four meetings with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and unending negotiations with potential allies. 

Who took the oath?

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Sunday administered the oath of office to Chandrasekar Joseph Vijay as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to N Anand as cabinet minister of Tamil Nadu.

Who attended the ceremony?

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi attended the swearing-in ceremony of Vijay as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Actress Trisha Krishnan was also seen attending Vijay's oath ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran, and BJP leader K Annamalai also attended the ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

Where did the event happen?

After a historic performance in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of the state, Chandrasekar Joseph Vijay, took place on Sunday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, ending days of uncertainty over the government formation in the state.

What happen before the oath ceremony?

The actor-turned-politician Vijay's party, TVK, won 108 of 234 seats in Assembly elections. On Saturday, the 51-year-old actor met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and claimed the support of five MLAs of Congress, two lawmakers of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and two each from the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
