New Delhi: Triumph has introduced its adventure bike, the Tiger 1200, with several major changes. This time, the bike features a more powerful engine, improved suspension, and new safety technology. Furthermore, radar features have been added to alert the rider to surrounding traffic while on the road. The updated model is expected to arrive in India in March 2027. It will be offered in two variants: GT Pro and Rally Explorer.

Changes in the engine, now more power will be available

The new Tiger 1200 is powered by a 1,200cc T-Plane triple-cylinder engine. This engine now produces 158 PS (approximately 156 bhp) at 9,250 rpm. This represents an 8 PS increase over the outgoing model. Triumph has made changes to the cylinder head, pistons, valves, and fuel injection system to improve the engine. The gearbox and shaft drive have also been updated, ensuring smoother operation of the engine and gears while riding.

The company has also made the bike easier to handle at low speeds. The new engine can reduce the bike's crawling speed by approximately 6 kmph. This will help with maneuvering in traffic, maneuvering through tight spaces, and maintaining control at low speeds.

New suspension and seat height changes

The new Tiger 1200 features SHOWA EERA HEIGHTFLEX semi-active suspension. It comes in three options: Firm, Medium, and Soft. The rider can choose the suspension setup based on the road conditions and their needs. It also has an automatic ride-height feature. When the bike is stopped, its seat height decreases by 30mm and returns to its normal height when the bike is moving again. There is also an option to set the seat to two different heights. With the optional low seat, the seat height can be up to 790mm when stopped. The bike also has a Centre Stand Assist feature. This temporarily increases the suspension preload, making it easier to place the bike on a centre stand.

Both variants will feature 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. Suspension travel is 200mm. The GT Pro features cast aluminum wheels, while the Rally Explorer features spoked wheels. Both feature Brembo Stylema brakes. Up to eight riding modes will also be available, depending on the model.

Radar technology will provide more safety

The new Tiger 1200 features a 7-inch HD touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A separate cooling compartment for storing phones and USB-C charging are also available. Additionally, it features adaptive LED headlights that provide better road illumination during cornering.

The bike is equipped with Bosch radar systems at the front and rear. These enable features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, emergency braking assistance, and blind-spot alert. Group Ride Assist is also provided to indicate the distance to oncoming traffic and maintain coordination between riders. Cornering ABS and traction control are also available.

Two variants will be available in India

The GT Pro will feature a 20-liter fuel tank, while the Rally Explorer features a larger 30-liter tank. The larger tank capacity will be useful for long-distance travelers. Both variants will feature a revised body design, new rider and pillion seats with thicker foam, heated seats, and three-level adjustable heated grips.

According to Triumph's Chief Product Officer, Steve Sargent, the new changes make the Tiger 1200 more powerful, easier to ride, and more modern. The company says that despite these updates, the fun of riding the bike has been maintained.
