The PIL, which was filed by two advocates, demanded a court-monitored investigation by the CBI and other agencies. The public interest petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday regarding the alleged embezzlement and financial irregularities in the Ram Mandir donations.
During the hearing, the petitioners argued in the Supreme Court that the investigation being conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police could not be trusted because crucial evidence was not being properly preserved.
This petition comes amid a police investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations made to the Ram Temple. Police have so far arrested eight people in connection with the Ram Temple donation theft case. Police have recorded the statement of Champat Rai, former general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, and statements from other senior Trust officials, including trustee Anil Mishra, may also be recorded if necessary. Champat Rai recently resigned from the Trust.
The Ram Temple donation theft controversy surfaced when allegations of cash theft were made from the temple's donation box. Following an investigation into the complaint, CCTV footage revealed the secrets of the theft. Following this, the Trust filed an FIR with the police. Based on the FIR, some employees who were responsible for counting donations at the Ram Temple were detained, questioned, and subsequently arrested.
